Stuff you might want to know…
If you have a question that isn’t answered on these pages, there is a good chance that other people will be asking it too. Help us to make it easier for people to understand how this scheme works by telling us – just use the contact form at the base of this page and mention that you think it might be something worth adding to this page. Thanks for all of your contributions so far!
Below we have our general FAQs, but please see the other categories opposite to see if the answer you seek is amongst them!
How long will it take me to complete your questionnaire?
It really depends how prepared you are and how much thought you have already put into your site structure etc. It normally takes around twenty minutes to complete, but it can obviously take longer if you need to think things through!
I am new to owning a website – what should I know?
The first thing you need to know is that we are going to look after you! Owning a website can be daunting – it doesn’t matter if you are a small one man band just setting up, or a large multi-national blue chip firm, your website is your shop window on your business.
We take all the hassle out of owning a website so you don’t have to learn all the technical jargon associated with the industry. You need to know that we will take care of your website, hosting and email accounts – other than that your time is freed up to allow you to concentrate on running your business!
I don’t really understand the jargon, what does all this mean in layman’s terms?
OK, simply put – you have a product or service to offer, you know your target market, you know how much you are going to charge and you know how much profit you will make. What you DON’T know is anything about owning, running or hosting websites!
We will design and build your website for you, give you access to edit the site yourself (if you want it!) and we take care of your domain purchase and hosting for you too. Oh – and as if that isn’t enough – we will also create up to five email addresses for you to which you can access in your web browser, on your phone or through a mail client on your PC/laptop such as MicroSoft Outlook – and that is all included in the price!
I can’t see any work that you have done within my industry/sector – does this matter?
We certainly don’t think so! Our design process involves researching your industry/sector, your competitors and your target audience so we are more than confident that we can achieve your goals for you. Over the years we have created websites for a wide range of industries including the IT industry, football scouting, promotional gifts, jewellery, weddings, venues, gyms and charities so rest assured that we know what we are doing!
I can see you have done work with one of my direct competitors, should this stop me from working with you?
This is really down to personal opinion, and to be fair there are pro’s and con’s on both sides! Firstly we are more than happy to sign a “non-disclosure agreement” if you are worried about important information being leaked so you can be sure that this will not happen. Also bear in mind that if we have already worked for one of your competitors in some way, then we have already done a lot of work and research in your field and are probably a step ahead of our competitors when it comes to the design work. Obviously though, the final choice is yours and if you are uncomfortable with our current working relationships we will understand fully!
It all sounds great – what is the catch?
There really isn’t one! Essentially if you choose to use Media Identity to build and host your website for you, you can walk away at any point! If you decide that we are not the right company for you after we have completed the initial designs for you, then we will even supply the work we have completed for you on a disc so you can take it to another supplier in the future with no further cost implications.
What happens to my site if Media Identity goes bust?
Whilst this is a very good question, it is not something we are planning on having to do any time soon! In the unlikely event that anything should happen to Media Identity then your site is safe! We have relationships with a number of local design agencies and agreements in place that if anything should happen to us, all your information will automatically be forwarded to them to continue the relationship under our existing terms. Further information on this can be supplied on request – please submit an enquiry through our contact form at the foot of each page of the site.
How do I get my site to number one in the search engines?
This is not a quick question to answer and is also something that is not included in the prices advertised on this site. There is an awful lot involved in promoting your website on the search engines and whilst we ensure that your site is search engine friendly when we hand it over to you we can’t guarantee anything in terms of positioning on the search engines. At this stage, we do not offer Search Engine Optimisation as a service, however we do have plans to add it to our range soon – so watch this space! We can recommend a couple of specialist partner companies that offer incredible results for very reasonable prices so please contact us if this is something that is of interest to you and we will be happy to refer you to the most suitable provider.
What notice do I need to give if I am looking to cancel/transfer?
None! Just cancel your subscription through PayPal and we will take the site down and release the domain for others to pick up on.
What is your hourly rate?
We charge £25 plus VAT per hour or £180 plus VAT per day. Please bear in mind that we only charge for additional work, we will be working hard to launch your site within the prices agreed at the time of placing your order.
Will my site work on Smart phones?
Yes! We code our sites to work on any “Standards Compliant Web Browser” which includes all the smart phone browsers too! If you expect a large volume of users to be viewing your site from their mobile phone, it may be necessary to launch a mobile version specifically for them. Contact us to find out more about the costs involved in this.
What is “content”?
“Content” is the term we use to describe the text, images and files that are used to make up your website.
Can you write our copy/content for us?
This is not a service we currently offer, although we always take pride in ensuring we are producing the best site we can! We do have relationships with a number of Copy Writers that are well versed at creating text for websites and other online activities – please contact us and we would be delighted to recommend a suitable service according to your needs.
Who owns the website?
The short answer to this is – in the short term we do! In order to offer such an affordable website design service we maintain ownership of the site and you essentially ‘rent’ it from us.
Site ownership can be transferred to you in its entirety when the total amount you have paid during the lifetime of the site exceeds £2,000 plus VAT. If you wish to transfer the site before this date, the remaining balance will need to be paid in its entirety before a transfer will be granted. Further information can be found in our terms and conditions of business which will be automatically displayed when you sign up, and can also be accessed here.
We have had a bad experience with web design in the past – what makes you different?
We do what we say we will, when we say we will do it!
Media Identity is a professional company and we run a tight schedule. Each website is properly planned and thought through before the design work even commences, saving hours, days, weeks and even months at the end of the process. We are also really keen to get sites completed and live as quickly as possible in order to start the monthly installment cycle!
